The Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, General Bheki Cele cordially invites members of the media to the youth and farmers’ imbizo engagement in Delmas, Mpumalanga Province.

The department will be hosting a youth imbizo under the theme: “Speaking to the people about issues that concern them”.

Purpose of the Delmas imbizo is to steer the focus towards agriculture, forestry and fisheries objectives which directly talk to priorities of Food Security, Job Creation and Contribution to the country’s GDP, while increasing the participation of stakeholders and communities by having meaningful interactions and unpacking the Nine-Point Plan aimed at igniting economic growth and job creation as announced by the President in his State of the Nation Address.

The Deputy Minister has been successfully accelerating youth recognition and forging more youth participation in the sectors of the department, with the department recently hosting its Annual #YAFF Excellence Awards to recognise outstanding work done by young people in agriculture, forestry and fisheries.

The provincial leadership will accompany the Deputy Minister and will bring interventions, discuss service delivery issues and address challenges faced by young people and farmers in Delmas and surrounding areas.

They will visit among others, the Buhle Farmers Academy and Fortune 40 project in the area. The site visits are aimed at gaining first hand experience and to determine immediate interventions to assist small holder farmers.
