Defence technology and products manufactured by Denel will be on display at the DSEi exhibition in London this week.
The Defence Security and Equipment International (DSEi) is one of the largest shows of its kind in the world with more than 1 600 companies representing over 50 countries displaying their products in the London Docklands. The DSEi exhibition takes place from 10-13 September.
The previous exhibition, held in 2017, attracted over 35 000 attendees.
Danie du Toit, Group CEO of Denel says DSEi provides the group with an excellent opportunity to demonstrate the quality of its products and services to prospective clients. “This is an opportunity for Denel to grow our business and add to the winnable order pipeline of more than R30-billion in the next 24 months”.
“Our intention is to showcase the quality and the versatility of Denel’s products, especially in the fields of turret systems for combat vehicles, integrated weapon stations and missile technology,” says Du Toit.
“This is an opportunity to reposition Denel as an innovative defence and technology company and a trusted partner of clients who want to acquire our proven products. We are world leaders in a number of defence products – most notably in artillery systems, mine-resistance vehicles, missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles,” says Du Toit.
This year, the Denel group will have a small but highly focused display of products and services at DSEi.
Denel Dynamics’ Umkhonto is a surface-to-air-missile family that includes vertically launched, high-velocity, infrared and radar homing missiles specifically designed to provide all-round defence against simultaneous attacks from multiple platforms. The missile is effective against a wide range of threats, which includes cruise missiles and anti-ship missiles in both the naval and ground-based air defence environments.
Denel Land Systems’ G5 howitzer has set the standard for long-distance artillery over more than three decades. A truck-mounted version of the gun, the T5-52, has added unequalled indirect firing flexibility to a well-proven system. The T5-52 is especially suitable to forces that require artillery, which combines mobility with long-distance capabilities and accuracy. It can reach targets at a distance of 57km when firing V-LAP projectiles and up to 43km with base bleed projectiles.
Denel Vehicle Systems’ RG12 Mk6 is as evolution of the Mk4 vehicle. The upgrades done include increasing the hull length and width. The space around the driver was optimised to improve driver comfort, independent suspension was added, and an engine with more power was installed to increase performance. The advanced electronic system is equipped, amongst others, with a full surround view camera system and all the electronic systems are digitally controlled via a CANBUS system with digital displays in the dashboard instead of analogue gauges.
Du Toit says it is important for the South African defence industry to have a presence at international exhibitions such as DSEi. “This is a major meeting place for decision-makers in the defence industry – ministers of defence, senior military commanders and officials responsible for acquisition are all together in one venue over a four day period.
“It enables us to market our products directly to the people who take the decisions to acquire future weapon-systems and military products – especially in our target markets in Central Asia, Africa and the Middle East,” says Du Toit.
