Ramaphosa admits there is ‘no quick fix’ to a power crisis

Amid intense load-shedding, President Cyril Ramaphosa has warned that there is “no quick fix” to the problem, which he says has “a long history”.

In his weekly newsletter a week after having cut short a working visit abroad, the President acknowledged widespread public anger, which he described as “wholly justified”.

While conspicuously refraining from criticising the current Eskom leadership, the President said given the unpredictable performance of Eskom’s fleet of coal-fired power stations, government will not be able to eliminate loadshedding in the short term.

Two more July unrest 'instigators' in the dock

Two more suspects have been charged as alleged instigators of the July 2021 unrest.

Ntobeko Knowledge Dube appeared in the Durban Magistrate's Court today, while Nkosinathi Ngiba, appeared last Friday in the same court.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said they both face charges of conspiracy to commit public violence, incitement to commit public violence, and incitement to commit arson.

The latest arrests bring the total number of suspected instigators charged to 50.

Mkhuseli Jack sees UDF mission in Maimane's new political party Bosa

Nelson Mandela Bay Deputy Mayor Mkhuseli Jack is backing Mmusi Maimane's new political party, Build One South Africa, to help build a push for power last seen with the United Democratic Front during apartheid.

Jack had no kind words for the ANC's governance of the country, saying everything placed in the party's hands had collapsed.

The struggle veteran was speaking on Saturday on the sidelines of the launch of Bosa in Naledi, Soweto.

He returned to politics in 2021, and founded the political and civic organisation Abantu Integrity Movement, which he used to contest in the 2021 municipal elections.
