IFP and DA urge government to step up efforts to tackle unemployment

Low probability of load-shedding for the week

And, Zimbabwe is getting another 'new' currency

IFP and DA urge government to step up efforts to tackle unemployment

The DA in Gauteng has expressed shock that South Africa's unemployment rate in the third quarter was the highest it had been in 11 years.

A  quarterly labour force survey report from Statistics South Africa showed the jobless rate rose to 29.1% of the labour force in the third quarter, with the number of unemployed people increasing to 6.7-million from 4.5-million a decade ago.

The IFP urged government to step up its efforts to tackle unemployment, calling the latest jobless rate a disaster.

Low probability of load-shedding for the week

Eskom has said that no load-shedding was expected for today after generating plant performance improved and the probability of load-shedding remained low for the rest of the week.

Eskom has not implemented rotational load-shedding for the past ten days.

The power utility thanked customers for using electricity sparingly and urged people to switch off geysers and all non-essential lighting and electricity appliances to assist in reducing demand.

Zimbabwe is getting another 'new' currency

Zimbabwe's central bank will introduce a new currency in the next two weeks to address biting liquidity shortages in the economy and regain monetary policy control after years of dollarisation.

The as-of-yet-unnamed currency will have denominations of coins and notes with a maximum value of five Zimbabwe dollars.

The new currency will have the same value as the bond note and Real Time Gross Settlement dollars circulating in the economy.
