Zuma's 'state capture' legal costs appeal bid struck off ConCourt roll with costs

The Constitutional Court has struck off the roll, with costs, former president Jacob Zuma's attempt to appeal the estimated R10-million costs order issued against him for his challenge against the constitutionality of the State Capture Inquiry.

The Economic Freedom Fighters, DA and the Council for the Advancement of the SA Constitution asked the court to strike the matter off the roll this morning when Zuma's lawyers missed a deadline for the filing of the appeal record linked to the case as well as their heads of argument.

In October last year, the Supreme Court of Appeal dismissed Zuma's application for leave to appeal a Gauteng High Court ruling that he should be held personally liable for the costs of a failed attempt to review then Public Protector Thuli Madonsela's State of Capture Report.

Mbalula says no decision made on e-tolls

The National Department of Transport said today that no decision has been made regarding the future of e-tolls.

This follows a tweet from SAFM which said that Gauteng Transport MEC Jacob Mamabolo said in an interview with them that a decision has been taken to scrap e-tolls in the province.

Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula rubbished the news report and Mamabolo said he noted the “misleading tweet” quoting his interview with SAFM.

The Ministry of Transport said it was seized with the responsibility of ensuring that beyond a determination of whether the e-tolls are scrapped or not.

France's Macron says 'apologise' is not the right word in Rwanda genocide

French President Emmanuel Macron said "apologise" was not the right word to use when referring to France's role in Rwanda's genocide.

Earlier today he said he recognised his country's "responsibilities" in the 1994 tragedy.

Macron said "Apologise is not the appropriate term” and added that he “cannot grant forgiveness",  during a joint press conference with his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame.
