Mabuyane re-elected Eastern Cape ANC chairperson
Eastern Cape African National Congress leader Oscar Mabuyane has been re-elected for a second term, brushing off his rival Babalo Madikizela.
Mabuyane and most of the party leaders on his slate managed to take over political control in the province, in what was a shambolic elective conference marred by disruptions, as 477 ballots were counted.
Mabuyane received 812 votes, and Madikizela 662.
It was a clean sweep for the rest of Mabuyane’s slate.
Mlungisi Mvoko beat Xolile Nkompela to deputy chairperson with 812 votes.
Lulama Ngcukayitobi was re-elected as provincial secretary.
Helen Sauls-August was also re-elected deputy secretary with 805 votes.
Meanwhile, Zolille Williams obtained 799 votes and was elected treasurer.
Eskom warns of load-shedding at short notice
Eskom has warned that the power system will be severely constrained this evening, with the possibility of load-shedding at short notice should there be any unit breakdowns.
Load-shedding was suspended on Saturday, and the power system has recovered sufficiently to meet the demand during the day.
Eskom expects to return to service a generation unit each at Kusile and Kendal power stations before this evening.
Eskom said should any of these units fail to return as expected, the power system will be severely constrained, presenting an increased probability of load-shedding at short notice.
The return to service of a generation unit each at Matimba and Lethabo, as well as two units each at Hendrina and three at Tutuka power stations have been delayed, increasing the constraints in the evening.
And, Employee in Mpumalanga ANC chief whip's office arrested for Hillary Gardee murder
The African National Congress's Mpumalanga legislature chief whip, Fidel Mlombo, says the arrest of an employee in his office in connection with the murder of Hillary Gardee is "highly regrettable".
Mlombo said his office and the party are totally against and distance themselves from the act of killing of innocent people.
The person who was arrested cannot be named until his appearance in the Mbombela Magistrate's Court along with two others.
They are facing charges of murder, rape, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and conspiracy to commit murder.
Gardee, 28, is the daughter of former Economic Freedom Fighters secretary-general Godrich Gardee.
She was reported missing two weeks ago and her body was found on Tuesday with a gunshot wound to the head.
