Ramaphosa authorises SIU to investigate corruption in North West roads department
The Special Investigating Unit has been given the go-ahead by President Cyril Ramaphosa to investigate corruption, malpractice and maladministration in the North West Department of Public Works and Roads and to recover any financial losses suffered by the department.
Ramaphosa recently signed a Proclamation authorising the SIU to look into transactions which took place between 2016 and March 12, 2021.
The investigation will focus on the contracting of services relating to project management for the Transport Infrastructure Directorate of the Department, the rehabilitation of flood-damaged roads infrastructure in the province, and the installation of perimeter fencing at the Eagle Waters Wildlife Resort, and related payments.
Last week Ramaphosa authorised investigation of corruption in the Mogalakwena municipality, in Limpopo.
David Mabuza explains how expropriation forms part of government's land reform programme
The government will use expropriation without compensation to resolve land restitution claims, Deputy President David Mabuza has said.
"Expropriation without compensation is just one available tool that will be utilised in the land reform programme," he said in response to a question from the Economic Freedom Fighter.
Mbuza said some land is going to be purchased for redistribution.
He said the land that is in question for expropriation is restitution land, because the land has been claimed by claimants, adding that government will not wait until all legislative processes are in place before land can be trasferred from those who own the land to the claimants.
And, Ramaphosa says SA is united in grief with Tanzania
President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed his sadness at the passing of Tanzanian President John Magufuli, who passed away on Wednesday in Dar es Salaam.
Tanzanian Vice-President Samia Suluhu Hassan could assume the presidency for the remainder of Magufuli’s five-year term. She would be the East African nation's first female president.
Magufuli served as the fifth President of Tanzania and chaired the Southern African Development Community until August 2020.
