Eskom to implement Stage 2 load-shedding from 17:00 until Friday night

Power utility Eskom says it will implement Stage 2 load-shedding from 17:00 on Wednesday until 23:00 on Friday as the generation capacity is severely constrained.

It warned that there is a probability that load-shedding may be implemented at short notice should any further breakdowns occur before then.

It further warns that load-shedding may continue throughout the weekend.

Continued poor performance at the Kusile, Duvha and Tutuka power stations, as well as delays in returning some other units to service, and breakdowns over the last week, have resulted in the need to implement load-shedding.

UCT still top university in Africa

The University of Cape Town has upheld its position as top university in Africa and now ranks 10th among universities in countries with emerging economies.

UCT Vice-Chancellor Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng has welcomed the ranking by the 2021 Times Higher Education Emerging Economies University Rankings.

For the first time this year, South Africa has six institutions in the top 100.

UCT took the 155th position in THE’s 2021 World University Rankings, published in September 2020, which assessed almost 1 500 institutions worldwide.

And, Northern Cape health HOD arrested by Hawks

The Hawks have arrested the acting head of department at the Northern Cape Department of Health.

The suspect was arrested for the alleged contravention of the Public Finance Management Act, Hawks spokesperson Nomthandazo Mnisi said on Wednesday morning.

He is expected to appear in the Kimberley Regional Court later on Wednesday.
