Parliament to be briefed on Gupta naturalisation

The Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs will be briefed this morning on the naturalisation application process of the Gupta family.

Last week, the EFF said it had received reliable information that during Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba's tenure as home affairs minister, he unduly granted the Gupta family South African citizenship.

Gigaba confirmed that the letters were genuine and explained that he had lawfully approved their applications in terms of the South African Citizen Act of 1995 which was amended by the South African Citizenship Amendment Act in 2010.

ANCYL applauds Mkhwebane's final report on Absa

The ANC Youth League says it is "motivated" by Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane's final report on the South African Reserve Bank's R1.125-billion bailout of Bankorp between 1985 and 1995.

Among Mkhwebane's findings was that the bailout was unlawful and that Absa must pay back the money.

ANCYL spokesperson Mlondi Mkhize said it was public knowledge that the league was one of the first organisations who vociferously called for Absa to pay the money due to South Africans by staging a massive march to their head offices.

MKMVA says South Africans hate the Guptas because they are Indian

South Africans only have an issue with the Gupta family because of their Indian origins, says the Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association.

The MKMVA also said the Guptas were just a side issue in a myriad of State capture claims, stretching as far back as 1948 when apartheid was formally established as a system in the country.

The association held a media briefing on Monday at the ANC's Luthuli House headquarters after the association's 5th national congress where both Kebby Maphatsoe and Des Van Rooyen retained their positions as top leaders in the MKMVA.
