ConCourt upholds Mkhwebane's suspension
In a unanimous judgment written by Deputy Chief Justice Mandisa Maya, the Constitutional Court upheld President Cyril Ramaphosa's suspension of Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane.
The court dismissed her application to halt the Section 194 inquiry into her fitness for office today.
In June 2022, two days after Mkhwebane informed Ramaphosa that she was investigating the Phala Phala matter, he suspended her.
Mkhwebane applied to the Western Cape High Court to have the suspension overturned and to have the Section 194 process declared unlawful.
It may take two weeks for Joburg system to recover
Rand Water says it is on schedule to complete its maintenance at 5am on Friday.
The 58-hour water outage from the bulk water supplier, which started on Tuesday evening and is affecting most of Johannesburg, has only a few more hours to go.
Rand Water completed work at the Zwartjkopjes Booster Pump Station on Wednesday night.
Spokesperson Makenosi Maroo said the booster station, which pumps water to areas in south of Johannesburg and the CBD, has started pumping water to the Yeoville and Meredale reservoirs.
The system will be fully recovered by 19:00 on Monday.
KZN premier and municipality mayor at loggerheads over stadium use
The mayor of the uMngeni Municipality, Chris Pappas, said KwaZulu-Natal Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube was denied permission to host an imbizo at a prominent stadium in the town this coming weekend.
He said Dube-Ncube could not use the Mpophomeni Stadium in the KZN Midlands because her office needed to abide by basic government protocols.
The stadium is booked for a community sports day, but Dube-Ncube insists her imbizo will go ahead on Sunday.
Pappas said Dube-Ncube was welcome to host her imbizo, but not at the stadium.
Pappas' briefing came after Dube-Ncube labelled the move as a "feeble and illegal attempt" by Pappas "to interfere with a government imbizo".
