PSA warns govt against using NHI for electioneering
The Public Servants Association expressed concern that government is using the introduction of the National Health Insurance to campaign for the 2024 elections.
The PSA is also calling on President Cyril Ramaphosa to reconsider the NHI and instead allow for further discussions to clarify unanswered questions and concerns raised by relevant stakeholders and warned that if that is not done, the NHI will be a “dead elephant” like the e-tolls.
The union warned that the current single funding model for the NHI will plunge the citizenry into a deeper financial crisis as they will be burdened to fund this initiative.
DA, IFP sign KZN Service Delivery Pact
The Democratic Alliance and Inkatha Freedom Party in KwaZulu-Natal signed a Service Delivery Pact, to bring much needed stability to several municipalities where both parties are involved.
The agreement has been six months in the making and follows on from the parties’ successful cooperation in by-elections to win wards from the ANC.
The agreement will ensure that where each party holds seats in a hung municipality, the DA and IFP will work together to improve service delivery and better the lives of residents.
Panyaza Lesufi says Johannesburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda is not an ANC mayor
ANC Gauteng leader Panyaza Lesufi says Johannesburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda should not be seen as an ANC mayor because he rose to power only due to the ANC's determination to keep the Democratic Alliance out of office.
Lesufi said Gwamanda was elected because the ANC chose to vote against the DA.
He said everything was done to vote against the DA and vowed that the ANC will crush any motion of confidence in the City of Johannesburg.
Lesufi had an active hand in negotiating with Gwamanda's party, Al Jama-ah, and Gwamanda was actively picked as a mayoral candidate, with the ANC's acceptance.
