Ramaphosa champions continent’s economic potential at DRC-SA Africa Business Forum
In a speech given to the DRC-SA Africa Business Forum in Kinshasa, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa advocated that Africa needs to realise its economic potential.
The meeting marked the twelfth Session of the Bi-National Commission between the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Africa. In attendance were DRC President Felix Tshisekedi, South African and Congolese Ministers of Industry and Trade, Ebrahim Patel and Julien Paluku Kahongya, respectively, and business leaders representing the two respective countries.
Ramaphosa celebrated the DRC’s importance to Africa historically, alluding to its vast mineral capacity, which underscored a new green industrial revolution. The President also alluded to the continent’s favourable age demographic and young people’s technological skills in propelling growth on the continent.
Despite the positive sentiments provided in his address, Ramaphosa highlighted the ongoing challenges the continent was experiencing as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, climate change and the rise in food and fuel prices brought on by the war in Ukraine.
Time is running out to nominate the next Public Protector
If you want to nominate a candidate to become the next Public Protector, you have until Friday at 4pm to get your nomination of a "suitable candidate" to the committee tasked with appointing Busisiwe Mkhwebane's successor.
The seven-year term of Mkhwebane – who is waging a war of attrition against her impeachment with Parliament – comes to an end on 14 October.
The Public Protector is appointed by the president on the recommendation of the National Assembly for a non-renewable term of seven years.
The National Assembly appointed an ad hoc committee to appoint a new Public Protector.
And, Malema warns EFF leaders to sell gala dinner tickets, or else
Economic Freedom Fighters regional leaders who fail to sell gala dinner tickets and fill hundreds of buses for the party's 10th birthday celebration will be publicly shamed and banned from attending its rally on July 29
This according to party leader Julius Malema.
The EFF is celebrating its founding anniversary with a rally at FNB Stadium.
Malema said all leaders were mandated to bring as many supporters as possible to the celebration.
Those who fail will be publicly exposed.
Malema said the EFF had told its representatives in Parliament as well as municipal and provincial legislatures to send busloads of constituents they claimed to be representing to the event.
The directive's deadline was 30 June.
Tickets to the EFF's gala dinner were on sale for thousands of rand.
