Gordhan asks to be left alone while he executes the president's project

Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan says he is following a mandate given to him by President Cyril Ramaphosa and that he must be left alone to complete the task he was given.

He asked for space to do his job so that South Africans can benefit but he also said that government was going to need a lot of help.

Gordhan has been under attack from opponents inside and out of the ANC, while some have criticised Eskom CEO André De Ruyter due to his lack of experience in the electricity sector and because he is white.

Meanwhile, Gordhan said he had confidence that de Ruyter was the right man to lead Eskom's recovery and restructuring

Mantashe confirms new Necsa board members

Energy and mineral resources minister Gwede Mantashe has appointed seven members to the board of the Nuclear Energy Corporation of South Africa.

The former board members resigned a week ago, claiming they did not have Mantashe's support.

The new board members have a wide range of skills in areas such as nuclear regulation, nuclear analytical and calibration services, nuclear science, engineering, finance, law and corporate governance.

The minister has also appointed to the board Elsie Monale as a representative of the department of mineral resources and energy.

Trump administration planning to add four African countries to travel ban list

The Trump administration is planning to add more African countries to its controversial travel ban list, according to media reports.

Some countries will face bans only on some visa categories, the Wall Street Journal reported,  but the list of countries was not final and could yet be changed.

US President Donald Trump said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal that he was considering adding countries to the travel ban, but declined to state which ones.
