DA executive calls on its Cape Town councillors to vote against party's own drought levy
DA councillors should vote against the City of Cape Town's proposed drought levy, the DA Cape metro executive said on Wednesday afternoon.
The levy, which will be tabled by the city's council for consideration at the end of January, was proposed by the city's DA-run administration at a council meeting on December 5.
The DA controls 66% of the city's council seats.
In a statement criticising Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille, DA Cape metro chairperson Grant Twigg said the drought levy proposal would create "an undue burden on ratepayers".
Rebels says KZN ANC leadership succession must be 'give and take'
The succession battle to re-establish leadership in KwaZulu-Natal must be "give and take", a spokesperson for the ANC "rebels" has said.
Sthembiso Mshengu spoke to News24 yesterday, following a visit by newly elected ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa earlier this week where he openly called for the two warring factions led by now former ANC provincial chairperson Sihle Zikalala and the other by former premier Senzo Mchunu to foster peace.
Mshengu said the decisions taken by the now illegitimate ANC provincial executive council had a devastating impact on party members.
Zimbabwe 'to shut down some embassies'
Zimbabwe is reportedly considering shutting down some of its 46 embassies around the world in a measure aimed at cutting costs.
According to the state-owned Herald newspaper, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Sibusiso Moyo said government was in the process of clearing its debt in respect of salaries, rentals and other running cost for its various embassies as it tried to rebuild its image internationally.
He said that this was in line with President Emmerson Mnangagwa's maiden speech as president when he pledged to rebuild relations with the international community.
