The Independent Electoral Commission announced today that four political parties made donation disclosures during the first quarter of 2022/23, however, two of the four donations were made later than the regulated timeframe.

The DA disclosed the largest total donation for the quarter with over R15-million.

The ANC which disclosed R10-million, made its declaration outside the IEC’s deadline.

ActionSA disclosed donations of R750 000, and the Patriotic Alliance, made the other late disclosure of R310 000 making the total amount disclosed by parties as over R27-million.

Of the DA’s total disclosed donations, its single largest donation of R15-million came from Fynbos Ekwiteit, which also made significant donations to the party in the previous financial year.

Youth turns on old guard as it eyes top posts in ANC Western Cape elective conference

While the ANC in the Western Cape is forging ahead with regional conferences as it gears up to elect new provincial party bosses, youth leaders have released a controversial report pushing for fresh blood to be injected into the party's top structures.

ANC Western Cape spokesperson Sifiso Mtsweni said branches were still holding its regional conferences.

He said they have approved Boland and Overberg regions which have met their threshold.

Mtsweni said they have challenges in Dullah Omar Metro and Southern Cape and added that he was confident that the provincial conference would take place and would be credible.

DPE welcomes arrest of former Transnet execs for alleged corruption

The Department of Public Enterprises has welcomed the arrest and court appearance of former Transnet executives on charges related to alleged corruption, State capture and fraud.

The DPE stated that the arrest of former Transnet Group CEO Brian Molefe and former Transnet CFO Anoj Singh is an indication that law enforcement agencies are following up on key recommendations of the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into allegations of State capture, corruption and fraud in the public sector including State entities.

Former executives Molefe and Singh were joined in the dock by Niven Pillay and Litha Nyhonyha, directors at the Gupta-linked firm Regiments Capital.
