eThekwini Exco collapsed
Opposition parties collapsed eThekwini Municipality’s highest decision-making body when they left the meeting on Tuesday, claiming they could not work with ANC members who had been sacked and whose future was uncertain.
The ANC normally holds a majority of six in the ten-person executive council committee which was recently reduced to three on Tuesday.
The missing ANC councillors were sacked mayor Zandile Gumede and councillor Mondi Mthembu.
High Court rules in favour of Denel employees
The High Court ruled on Tuesday that cash-strapped State arms manufacturer Denel must pay its employees money it owes them from unemployment insurance and taxes deducted from their salaries, trade union Solidarity said on Tuesday.
Head of Solidarity's Legal Services, Anton van der Bijl said it was a major victory for his union and the Denel employees.
Jiba stalls Parliament's process to remove her
Fired former prosecutor Nomgcobo Jiba has staved off Parliament's process to endorse President Cyril Ramaphosa's decision to fire her, for now.
On Monday, Jiba filed an application to interdict Parliament's process. The application will be heard in court on Wednesday.
In April, Ramaphosa fired Jiba and Lawrence Mrwebi, after retired Constitutional Court Justice Yvonne Mokgoro recommended that he sack them from the National Prosecuting Authority, following an inquiry.
The inquiry found that both of them were "not fit and proper to hold their respective offices", according to a statement from the Presidency.
