KZN ANC says party must expel Gordhan, Hanekom, Khoza and Gungubele

The ANC Youth League in KwaZulu-Natal has defended naming Makhosi Khoza, Pravin Gordhan, Mondli Gungubele and Derek Hanekom as "culprits" who supported the DA's motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma.

League chairperson Kwazi Mshengu said he could name them without fear because they had publicly said they would vote with their consciences on a motion designed to "liquidate the ANC".

He also wanted Hanekom to be removed as chair of the ANC’s disciplinary committee and another person brought in to lead the disciplinary process.

ANC top brass skirts around Manana assault incident

The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State have fallen short of calling out Deputy Minister of Higher Education Mduduzi Manana for assaulting a woman, despite issuing a strong statement for harsh punishment against women abusers.

ANC provincial chairperson Sihle Zikalala said both provinces’ provincial working committees were concerned about the increase of violence against women calling on the ANC structures and government to deal harshly with all acts of violence against women.

Hlaudi Motsoeneng expected in labour court

Former South African Broadcasting Corporation COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Labour Court today to explain why he should not be held personally liable for the wrongful dismissal of the SABC8 journalists.

The journalists were fired by the public broadcaster in July 2016 for speaking out against Motsoeneng's policy of no longer airing footage of violent protests.
Seven of the eight journalists were subsequently rehired following a High Court ruling.

Meanwhile Parliament’s communications portfolio committee will today begin shortlisting candidates to be appointed to the SABC board for a five-year term.

Also making headlines:

Zimbabwean authorities have confirmed that embattled Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa "was recovering well" after a poison scare over the weekend.
