Parliament says army must act responsibly

Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Defence and Military Veterans Cyril Xaba appealed to members of the South African National Defence Force to conduct themselves in "accordance with the Constitution" after complaints of soldiers using excessive force were received.

In a statement, Xaba expressed the committee's support for the Defence Force’s mandate in pursuit of curbing the spread of Covid-19 to save lives.

Xaba applauded the law enforcement personnel who have complied with the letter and spirit of the regulations, as declared by the President.

 

ANC thanks China as South Africa receives donation of medical equipment

The ANC has welcomed the donation of “much-needed” medical supplies and personal protective equipment from China to help the South African government’s ongoing efforts to combat the Covid-19 outbreak in the country.  

The Chinese Embassy handed over the consignment which included N95 masks, surgical masks, protective suits, portable infrared thermometers, goggles, surgical gloves and medical shoe covers.

South Africa has so far recorded 27 fatalities related to the virus.

 

Namibia extends coronavirus lockdown to 4 May

Namibian President Hage Geingob has extended the current lockdown aimed to curtail the spread of Covid-19, to 4 May.

The lockdown was initially declared in the Khomas and Erongo regions but now it would be countrywide until 5 May

Teachers and lecturers would operate from home until 6 May wile learners and students would not return to school until further notice.

 

Namibia recorded 16 cases of the coronavirus with three recoveries.
