AfriForum to privately prosecute Julius Malema
Lobby group AfriForum announced today that it intended to privately prosecute Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema on charges of fraud and corruption.
The announcement was made by AfriForum's private prosecution head advocate Gerrie Nel.
The group's legal team previously threatened legal action against the EFF and its leader, Malema, after he allegedly made racist remarks at a political gathering in March.
Malema allegedly said white people should be glad that the EFF did not call for a genocide.
Maimane says no 'new dawn' with Fraser at correctional services
Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane has questioned President Cyril Ramaphosa's commitment to his promise of a "new dawn" following the removal of Arthur Fraser from the State Security Agency only for him to be appointed as commissioner of correctional services.
Maimane said the DA welcomed Fraser's removal as director general of the State Security Agency, but reiterated its disapproval of Ramaphosa's decision to appoint Fraser as the national commissioner of the Department of Correctional Services.
Maimane said there was no 'new dawn' as long as individuals such as Fraser were recycled within various government departments, and not removed for good.
And, Limpopo judge president says there are too many frivolous appeals from government on court rulings
Limpopo Judge President Ephraim Makgoba has lashed out at government for its tendency to not take note of court rulings.
Makgoba was addressing the Inter-Provincial State Law Advisers Forum and said that government sometimes had a way of ignoring court orders by [using] delaying tactics, such as embarking on frivolous appeals.
He told the forum that over the past two years, government had appealed more than 80% of judgments made against it within the Limpopo High Court division.
Makgoba added that more than 70% of these appeals were thrown out due to government using delaying tactics to frustrate plaintiffs.
