The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape extends its heartfelt best wishes to all women across our province and our nation. This Women’s Day serves as a reminder of the strength, resilience, and invaluable contributions women make to our society every day. From the household to the boardroom, and from the community to the highest levels of leadership, women continue to shape and enrich our country in countless ways.
However, it is not enough to honour women on just one day of the year. South Africa continues to bear the tragic burden of having one of the highest rates of gender-based violence (GBV) in the world. This is an ongoing crisis that demands our unwavering attention and action every day, not just on Women’s Day.
The Democratic Alliance is committed to the fight against GBV and the creation of a society where every woman can live free from fear. This requires a collective effort from all South Africans. We must challenge the societal norms, entrenched inequalities, and harmful attitudes that allow this violence to persist. It is our duty to work together—across all sectors of society—to build a safer and more just environment for women.
