Today the standing committee on Human Settlement in the Western Cape Provincial Parliament received a briefing from the Department of Human Settlements on the Departments Annual Report.
The Annual Report revealed that during the 2015/2016 financial year, the Department managed to create 18745 housing opportunities and these range from the provision of free housing, subsidised housing for various categories of citizens based on income.
The Annual Report also revealed that the Department is in the process of accelerating the transfer of title deeds. In conjunction with all municipalities in the province, the title deed acceleration programme aims to deal effectively with the backlog of title deeds currently experienced by the department. The Department issued 7680 title deeds to beneficiaries through the transfer of residential properties.
We are pleased with the Department’s commitment to returning dignity to our beneficiaries by providing housing opportunities to people who would otherwise have no hope. The whole of government and whole of society approach ensures that we shift away from merely building houses, but we create communities that we can be proud off.
The DA led Western Cape Government is committed to placing the people first by providing housing opportunities to all deserving beneficiaries.
