The DA in the Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma Local Municipality will lay charges against municipal employees that are allegedly sabotaging water infrastructure.

Residents of Underberg and Himeville have not had running water for nine (9) days and counting after municipal employees allegedly tampered with the municipality’s water infrastructure.

This is due to a wage dispute between the employees and the Harry Gwala District management over overtime pay. The workers have taken matters into their own hands and allegedly sabotaged the water supply to both villages, effectively cutting off the water supply.

There is no end in sight for residents as even when the water supply returns they will still have to wait a further three days for the reservoir to fill up.

What has been more frustrating is the lack of urgent response and intervention from municipal officials.

Residents have a right to clean water.

The DA is therefore taking firm action by laying charges against those involved. Ratepayers cannot be deprived of services that they pay for due to the district’s failure to get their house in order.
