Tomorrow, 17 August 2022 and Thursday, 18 August 2022, DA eThekwini Councillors will conduct oversight visits to some of the areas that have been experiencing sewage spills in their communities due to ageing infrastructure and poor maintenance by the municipality.
There have been growing reports of people falling sick due to contaminated water, as well as an significantly negative environmental impact on rivers and marine life.
Last week, the DA called on the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Senzo Mchunu, for the allocation of an equitable water services infrastructure grant to repair and maintain the eThekwini system that has been increasingly neglected over the past two decades. This which has been a major contributor to sewage leaks.
The DA is greatly concerned about the health of residents in these areas and the effect on homes and businesses.
