The Democratic Alliance (DA) retained two Western Cape seats in by-elections in the province on Wednesday, the South African Electoral Commission (IEC) said. 

At Overstrand Municipality's ward 13, the party retained the seat left vacant after the councillor resigned. Voter turnout was 47.44 percent.

Beaufort West Municipality's ward 2 was retained with a voter turnout of 53.56 percent.

The DA defeated parties such as the African National Congress, African Christian Democratic Party and the Economic Freedom Fighters to keep the two seats. Two independent candidates and the Karoo Democratic Force also contested the Beaufort West ward.
