The Democratic Alliance (DA) is thrilled that the DA-led uMngeni Local Municipality, has been selected as one of four municipalities to pilot critical infrastructure projects, as part of the Presidential Infrastructure Plan.

uMngeni’s capacity to deliver impactful results makes it an ideal candidate to lead this transformative programme.

The municipality is making great strides at improving infrastructure and services, and this vote of confidence should see even greater improvements in waste management, landfill site improvements, roads and stormwater improvements and electricity capacity too.

Yesterday’s inaugural Presidential Infrastructure Coordinating Commission (PICC) Council, chaired by President Cyril Ramaphosa, singled out uMngeni for this pilot project.

By choosing uMngeni, the Council has recognised its outstanding governance, its track record of completing infrastructure projects, and its effective management of budgets, including grant funding.

With Infrastructure South Africa (ISA) playing a central role in identifying and managing priority infrastructure projects, and the oversight of Minister Dean Macpherson ensuring accountability, this pilot initiative aims to set a national standard for infrastructure success on a new model.

The choice of uMngeni brings home the Democratic Alliance’s delivery of capable and accountable governance. The infrastructure investment in uMngeni will not only create jobs and improve services but will also demonstrate how a well-run municipality can drive meaningful development and improve the lives of its residents.

Under DA governance, uMngeni Municipality continues to set the benchmark for excellence in local government.

This initiative is a testament to what is possible when governance is driven by accountability, efficiency, and a clear focus on community upliftment.
