The Democratic Alliance (DA) will be holding a National Day of Action tomorrow, Wednesday, 18 September 2024 , across all nine provinces to oppose Eskom’s proposed electricity tariff increases. This follows Eskom’s request for an extraordinary 36% tariff increase on top of the already approved R8 billion “make-up” tariff for next year.

Since 2007, Eskom has increased electricity prices by 450%, placing unbearable financial strain on South African households and businesses. The DA is resolute in its opposition to these extortionate increases, which threaten the livelihood of millions of South Africans, forcing them to choose between keeping the lights on or putting food on the table.

Tomorrow, the DA will be taking its campaign to the streets through marches, pickets, and various grassroots actions.

This mass action is being organised ahead of the urgent debate in Parliament scheduled for Thursday, 19 September 2024, where the DA will formally oppose Eskom’s exorbitant demands.

Together, we can prevent this reckless increase that will further devastate South African families and businesses.
