Chairperson,
Over a third of South Africa’s drinking water is lost before it could be used. This is due to infrastructure failure, leaking pipes, mismanagement and corruption at municipal level.
South Africa has made considerable progress in providing water services, including both piped water and sanitation.
However, certain structural weaknesses persist; a proportion of the population either has no water services or due to uneven access to functioning systems, they remain vulnerable to waterborne diseases.
