Sonja Boshoff MP:

"The Sixth Administration's policy uncertainty, corruption, and red tape drove investors away and stifled job creation.

Eskom plunged the country into darkness in previous years while draining billions of rands from public coffers. Load-shedding alone cost the economy over R1 billion a day, pushing prices higher and deepening poverty. And now NERSA may allow Eskom to bleed citizens dry with the proposed 40% electricity price hike. This is totally unacceptable. If NERSA won’t make the right decision, will you step in, Mr President?"

Mzamo Billy MP:

"Mr. President, I rise today in this House, firstly to reaffirm the Democratic Alliance's unwavering commitment to using every opportunity at our disposal to reduce poverty and tackle the high cost of living for all South Africans, particularly the poor.

More than 18 million South Africans are living in poverty, many of them in rural areas, informal settlements, and townships. Many of people are not just unemployed or poor, they are struggling to put food on the table.

They are starving.

People are trapped in a vicious generational cycle of poverty. People can no longer afford electricity. This is an impending crisis.

To resolve this impending crisis, we simply cannot afford to do things the same way it has been done in the past 30 years."

Rikus Badenhorst MP:

"A flawed census hinders the delivery of basic services like healthcare, water, and electricity to those in need, exacerbating inequality.

The fight against poverty requires nuanced and localized approaches. Census data identifies high-unemployment areas, informing job creation strategies and economic policies.

Errors, such as those in the 2022 census, jeopardise these efforts. Undercounts lead to underserved populations, while overcounts strain budgets with inefficiencies."
