The DA in the Western Cape welcomes the findings against members of the EFF Student Command at the University of Cape Town for deliberately destroying and removing branded items belonging to the Democratic Alliance Students Association during the recent SRC election.
We have become accustomed to witnessing regular rule-breaking stunts from the EFF in other parts of the country. The recent SRC campaign at UCT was not dissimilar with EFF students vandalising others' election posters and intimidating students to vote.
The DA is currently awaiting the findings of a separate complaint which pertains to the ballot papers where it has been acknowledged by UCT officials that DASO candidates' political affiliations were not included in the initial ballots, in direct contravention of election rules.
The DA is fully committed to protecting free & fair elections on campuses.
