The Democratic Alliance (DA) and Freedom Front (FF) Plus national party leaders John Steenhuisen and Dr Pieter Groenewald have released a statement, emphasising their respective commitment to stabilising coalitions in the Western Cape and other provinces.
Steenhuisen and Groenewald met on Wednesday to discuss coalitions in the Western Cape, where they agreed that “unstable” local African National Congress coalition relationships were detrimental to communities.
Last week it was reported that the coalition between DA and the FF Plus had dissolved after a dispute which the DA had lodged against the FF Plus over a refusal to support the coalition's budget in the council in May.
The agreement also entails, among other things, that Groenewald will meet with the federal and provincial leadership of the DA.
Inputs from local leadership of affected municipalities will be collected to identify the origin of problems and to find amicable solutions.
