The Democratic Alliance (DA) extends its sincerest condolences to the people of Namibia on the passing of President Hage Gottfried Geingob, who passed away in Windhoek in the early hours of this morning.
As Namibia’s longest serving prime minister, and third president, Geingob was instrumental in the growth and development of the Republic of Namibia since its independence in 1990. He also leaves an immense legacy as a freedom fighter and anti-apartheid activist who dedicated his life to the liberation of the Southern African people, often from exile in Botswana and the United States of America.
His contribution to Namibia, South Africa, and the Southern African Development Community has been instrumental in fostering closer regional diplomatic ties and trade, helping to secure the prosperity of the citizens of the Southern African region as a whole.
The DA extends its condolences to Geingob’s family and loved ones, his party, the South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO), and the people of Namibia as they mourn the loss of a Southern African struggle giant.
May President Geingob’s soul rest in peace after a life dedicated to the freedom and prosperity of his fellow man.
Issued by John Steenhuisen MP - Leader of the Democratic Alliance
