The DA in Limpopo will write to the MEC for Economic Development Environment and Tourism, Rodgers Monama, to engage with the chairperson of Great North Transport (GNT) to suspend the Chief Executive Officer, Dr Matata Mokoele, until the conclusion of his disciplinary process.
The DA was reliably informed that Dr. Mokoele is currently undergoing an internal disciplinary process for allegedly increasing payment to a security company by 30% without the board’s approval.
Sources allege that Dr. Mokoele is currently not under suspension and that he is harassing and intimidation employees who are possible witnesses against him.
GNT is a subsidiary company of LEDET and has been battling to show a profit for years now.
More than R300 million of pension contributions by employees was utilised as cash flow.
GNT’s turn -around strategy under Dr. Mokoele is sluggish and it failed to meet its contractual obligations to the provincial department of transport to increase its fleet of buses.
If Dr. Moekole indeed increased payment to a security company it was done at the expense of clean governance and the profitability of GNT.
We call on the chairperson of GNT, Chikane Chikane, to suspend Dr. Mokoele, to protect the witnesses and to expedite the disciplinary process to protect the entity.
State owned entities must be protected against maladministration and underperformance by top officials to ensure delivery to the people.
Issued by Risham Maharaj MPL - DA Provincial Spokesperson for LEDET
