The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Kopanong Local Municipality condemns the illegal land grabs taking place in Philippolis.

The situation stems from false promises made by ANC councillors, luring community members with the guarantee of housing in exchange for support during elections. Shockingly, no official proclamations have been issued for these houses. Even more alarming, no plots have been demarcated, and the area lacks crucial infrastructures such as sewage systems, water plants, and electricity facilities. The absence of these basic amenities renders the promises utterly deceitful, causing immense distress in the community..

The DA categorically opposes these illegal land invasions. However, our concern deepens due to the sluggish response exhibited by the ANC-run municipality in addressing this urgent matter. The encouragement of residents to unlawfully occupy land is not only morally indefensible but also a blatant violation of the democratic process. This situation poses a direct threat to the community's well-being, leading to increased social instability and economic uncertainty.

We call on the municipality to take immediate action. We demand the prompt demarcation of land, the installation of sewage systems, the establishment of water and electricity plants, and the creation of essential infrastructures vital for the community's prosperity and security, as promised. The municipality must rectify this dire situation urgently, restoring the faith of the citizens in the democratic system and ensuring that such deceitful practices are rooted out permanently.

We will work tirelessly with the affected community, engaging in collaborative efforts to resolve this crisis. We will write to the Speaker, Jerry Moitse and the Executive Mayor, Xolani Tseletsele, to address the suspected councillors and ensure that the necessary steps are taken. Furthermore, we will monitor the municipality's progress closely, holding them accountable for their actions and ensuring that the community's needs are met effectively.
