The DA congratulates the West Coast District Municipality (WCD) for receiving its twelfth consecutive clean audit status since the financial year of 2010/2011. This is a commendable testament of good, clean governance and quality service delivery to residents.

We can also commend the WCD for the hard work it is doing with the provision of bulk water services, road maintenance, disaster management and safety.

• The WCD is the only district in the country which operates as a water service provider within a water concession for the municipalities of Saldanha Bay, Swartland and Bergrivier.
• The WCD increased its human resources for the maintenance of provincial roads, unlocking 63 full-time employment opportunities. The district also embarked on the resealing of over 44km of provincial roads in the current financial year.
• The WCD has a total of six fire stations across the district, and working relations with stakeholders such as the Fire Protection Association, Working of Fire, Western Cape Department of Disaster Management, Cape Nature, SANParks, Department of Fisheries Forestry and Environment ensures effective fire prevention responses.
• Through funds made available by the Western Cape Department of Community Safety and Police Oversight, the WCD has established a District Community Safety Forum, an Emergency Response and Prevention Operational Centre, and ensured that communication infrastructure between these entities, as well as with the Police Service and Provincial Traffic, are bolstered and efficient.

The DA applauds the West Coast District Municipality for the tremendous work they do. These achievements are testament to the difference the DA makes when it is given the opportunity to govern.

We are encouraged to see that the hope the DA is giving to people, is resonating with voters, not only in the Western Cape, but across the country. It is critical that voters unite behind the DA, because it is the only party strong enough to unseat the failing ANC government and save South Africa.
