In an effort to ensure that accountability prevails, the Democratic Alliance (DA) has called for the complete Lady R report to be made public.
The report is due for submission today following claims made that ammunition was smuggled onboard the Russian cargo vessel when it docked in Simon’s Town in December last year.
The DA has raised its concerns about transparency and accountability following what it contends to be the African National Congress (ANC) government’s decision to only release sections of the report.
“It is imperative that they do not hide behind a cloak of secrecy, but instead provide clarity to the South African public and international community. The credibility of the report hinges on its complete publication,” said DA MP and Shadow Minister of Defence and Military Weapons Kobus Marais.
He suggested that scepticism would continue if the report failed to address critical aspects. The party has also bemoaned President Cyril Ramaphosa’s leadership in approaching various crises facing the country.
“The DA strongly condemns the government’s attempt to secretively disclose only portions of the report. We demand full transparency, insisting that the public deserves closure on this matter,” said Marais.
