The CR17 campaign will not allow an expanding dirty tricks campaign to derail its efforts. The latest part of this campaign was revealed by Julius Malema on Capricorn FM this evening, where he spoke about rumours that Cyril Ramaphosa had abused his former wife.
Malema also implied that certain ANC leaders may be behind these rumours. This was on the same day as The Star reported on a fake intelligence report that appears part of an effort to target Ramaphosa and the campaign.
With the high levels of domestic violence in South Africa, it is extremely unfortunate that baseless rumours of this nature are used for political gain. When accusations like this are made without any evidence, it undermines our effort to eradicate violence against women.
Given the destructive role that fake intelligence reports have played in our public life over the last few years and months, we would urge journalists and members of the public to treat such intelligence reports with utmost caution.
Consistent with its objectives, the CR17 campaign supports the thorough investigation by appropriate authorities of any and all credible allegations of criminal activity, especially violence against women and allegations of misappropriation of public funds.
The CR17 campaign promotes the restoration of the values and integrity of the ANC and the development of a society based on the rule of law, justice and equality. It will not allow the tactics of the desperate to undermine this effort.
