South Africa recorded 3 169 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday, which represent an 8.8% positivity rate.
There have been 12 new Covid-19-related deaths in the last 48 hours. As a result of an audit, an additional 191 deaths were reported, increasing the confirmed death toll to 96 705.
Most new cases on Wednesday were recorded in Gauteng, which accounted for 32%, followed by the Western Cape with 19%. KwaZulu-Natal with 14%; Mpumalanga with 12%; the North West with 7%; Limpopo and the Free State with 6% each; the Eastern Cape with 4%; and the Northern Cape with 2%. Gauteng recorded 1 003 new cases, KwaZulu-Natal 446 and Mpumalanga 366.
According to a statement by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), as of Thursday, the country recorded a total of 3 634 811 laboratory-confirmed cases.
There were 86 new hospital admissions in the last 24-hour reporting cycle. As of Thursday, 4 354 people were in public and private hospitals for the respiratory disease.
South Africa has conducted 22 591 175 cumulative tests, of which 36 113 were carried out in the last 24-hour cycle.
According to the Department of Health, 30 468 125 vaccine doses have been administered. Of those, 65 941 were administered on Thursday.
To date, 16 684 897 adults are fully vaccinated. Among children aged 12 and older, 1 353 555 vaccine doses have been administered.
