South Africa recorded 1 691 new confirmed Covid-19 infections on Monday.
According to a statement by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), as of Monday, the country recorded 3 560 921 laboratory-confirmed cases. There were 25 new Covid-19-related deaths in the previous 24- to 48-hour reporting period, bringing the confirmed death toll to 93 451.
The NICD said the 1 691 new Covid-19 cases identified in South Africa represented a 9.3% positivity rate.
As of Monday, Gauteng recorded 1 155 973 confirmed cases, KwaZulu-Natal 636 108 and the Western Cape 620 255.
Most new cases were recorded in Gauteng, which accounted for 27% of new infections, followed by the Western Cape with 19%. KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 17%; Mpumalanga 11%; Limpopo and North West 7% each; Free State 6%; Eastern Cape 5%; and Northern Cape 2%.
Gauteng recorded 456 new cases on Monday, the Western Cape 316 and KwaZulu-Natal 285.
There were 114 new hospital admissions in the last 24-hour cycle. As of Monday, 7 700 people were in public and private hospitals for Covid-19.
South Africa conducted 21 815 463 cumulative tests, of which 18 171 were carried out in the last 24-hour cycle.
According to the Department of Health, 28 993 654 vaccine doses have been administered. Of those, 86 119 were administered on Monday.
To date, 16 080 352 adults are fully vaccinated. Among children aged 12 and older, 1 086 295 vaccine doses have been administered.
