South Africa recorded 685 new Covid-19 infections on Monday, which represented a 5.4% positivity rate.
Two new Covid-19 deaths were reported in the last 48 hours, bringing the confirmed death toll to 100 052.
Most new cases were recorded in Gauteng, which accounted for 46% of the infections, followed by the Western Cape with 20%. KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 18%; Mpumalanga 5%; Eastern Cape, Free State and North West 3% each; Northern Cape 1%; and Limpopo less than 1%.
Gauteng recorded 315 new cases on Monday, the Western Cape 137, and KwaZulu-Natal 122.
According to a statement by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), as of Monday, the country recorded 3 667 560 laboratory-confirmed cases. Gauteng is the most impacted with 1 211 188 cases, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 661 425 and the Western Cape with 651 771.
There were 26 new hospital admissions in the last 24-hour reporting cycle. As of Monday, 1 849 people were in public and private hospitals for Covid-19.
South Africa conducted 23 922 395 tests in total, of which 12 697 were carried out in the last 24-hour cycle.
According to the Department of Health, 33 875 176 vaccine doses have been administered. Of those, 49 706 were administered on Monday.
To date, 17 564 726 adults are fully vaccinated. Among children aged 12 and older, 1 977 315 vaccine doses have been administered.
