More than 44% of all adults in South Africa are fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
According to the Department of Health, 17 526 616 adults are fully vaccinated. Among children aged 12 and older, 1 958 725 vaccine doses have been administered.
To date, 33 738 165 vaccine doses have been administered in the country. Of those, 76 038 were administered on Thursday.
South Africa recorded 1 888 new cases of Covid-19 on Thursday, which represented a 6.5% positivity rate.
One new Covid-19 death was reported in the last 48 hours, bringing the confirmed death toll to 100 032.
Most new cases were recorded in Gauteng, which accounted for 39% of the infections, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 22%. The Western Cape accounted for 21%; Eastern Cape and Free State 4% each; Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West 3% each; and the Northern Cape 1%.
Gauteng recorded 727 new cases on Thursday, KwaZulu-Natal 406 and the Western Cape 403.
According to a statement by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, as of Thursday, the country recorded 3 718 953 laboratory-confirmed cases.
Gauteng is the most impacted with 1 209 234 cases, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 660 425 and the Western Cape with 650 781.
There were 44 new hospital admissions in the last 24-hour reporting cycle. As of Thursday, 1 926 people were in public and private hospitals for Covid-19.
South Africa conducted 23 838 911 tests, of which 29 567 were carried out in the last 24-hour cycle.
