South Africa recorded 1 867 new Covid-19 infections on Wednesday, which represented an 8.7% positivity rate.
According to a statement by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), as of Wednesday, the country recorded 3 688 423 laboratory-confirmed cases. Ten new Covid-19 deaths have been recorded, bringing the confirmed death toll to 99 656.
Most new cases were recorded in Gauteng, which accounted for 37% of new infections, followed by the Western Cape with 26%. KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 15%; Free State, Mpumalanga, and North West 5% each; Eastern Cape 4%; Limpopo 3%; and Northern Cape 1%.
Gauteng recorded 683 new cases on Wednesday, the Western Cape 483 and KwaZulu-Natal 280.
As of Wednesday, Gauteng recorded 1 198 037 cases, KwaZulu-Natal 654 607 and the Western Cape 643 128.
There were 60 new hospital admissions in the last 24-hour reporting cycle. As of Wednesday, 2 486 people were in public and private hospitals for Covid-19.
South Africa conducted 23 314 522 cumulative tests, of which 28 667 were carried out in the last 24-hour cycle.
According to the Department of Health, 32 322 691 vaccine doses have been administered. Of those, 89 796 were administered on Wednesday.
To date, 17 176 000 adults are fully vaccinated. Among children aged 12 and older, 1 729 991 vaccine doses have been administered.
