The Congress of South African Trade Unions in the North West province calls for the Provincial Government and the ANC to urgently disband the Ditsobotla Local Municipality council.

The council continues to fail to perform its function in the municipality. Furthermore, it has resisted all forms of intervention which was provided to the municipality.

The call for its disbandment is also informed by the high level of anarchy and organisational defiance that exists in that municipal council, especially from the deployees of the ANC, which is the majority party in that council.

As COSATU, we believe that all efforts to support and rebuild that municipality have been exhausted. The only option left is to invoke section 139 1c of the constitution to allow by-elections and the deployment of candidates who will be committed to providing services to the people of Ditsobotla.

COSATU wants to further highlight that the conduct of the councillors in Ditsobotla continues to compromise workers and their families as this led to workers not being paid their monthly salaries on time.
