The provincial secretary of South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu) in North West, Job Dliso, has been appointed as the provincial secretary of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) in the North West, the federation said on Friday.
Dliso was appointed at the special provincial executive committee meeting in Stillfontein near Klerksdorp this week.
“The purpose of the Provincial Executive Committee [meeting] was to fill the vacancy of the provincial secretary, which was left vacant when Comrade Solly Phetoe was elected as a deputy general secretary of the federation by the 12th national congress of Cosatu, which was held in November 2015,” the federation said in a statement.
Phetoe beat Oscar Phaka from the Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (Denosa) to be elected deputy general secretary of Cosatu. He obtained 1 679 votes while Phaka received 677 votes.
Dliso contested for the position of provincial secretary with Phetoe at the provincial congress in June last year. His union, Satawu later withdrew him as a candidate and Phetoe retained his position uncontested.
Five months later Phetoe was elected deputy general secretary of Cosatu.
