The Congress of South African Trade Unions joins millions of workers in South Africa to mourn the death of veteran trade unionist and Founding President of the National Council of Trade Unions (NACTU) Comrade James Mdlalose who recently passed away. We send our heartfelt condolences to NACTU, his family, and his friends.
Cde Mdlalose was a formidable trade unionist who led NUFBSAWU as their President and also contributed to the formation of CUSA that he also led as its President.
COSATU has been deeply heartened by the comradeship and collaboration between our respective organizations in defense of workers. We are grieving with NACTU at this difficult time.
As workers, we owe a lot to these veterans of the trade union movement and we need to honour them by working together to defend the gains of the workers that are under siege during this Covid-19 inspired economic crisis. Let us continue to prioritise and jealously defend our unity as we fight side by side in the trenches for the emancipation of workers and the working class in general.
Salute again to this pioneer of the trade union movement and may his soul rest in peace!
