The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) in Gauteng is saddened by yet another gruesome murder of a woman in South Africa and in the province. The murder of Tshegofatso Pule reflects a sick society that continues to show no value for human life. COSATU in Gauteng sends its heartfelt condolences to the Pule family.
The time has arrived for society led by government to stop talking but to act decisively against this deplorable action by some sections of society.
COSATU in Gauteng demands the same outrage that we have seen shown following the killing of US citizen George Floyd. This is a scourge and South Africans cannot normalize this.
We are calling civil society, churches, non-governmental organizations, taxi associations and affiliates of COSATU to stand up against gender-based violence and femicide.
We are further calling for law enforcement agencies to work around the clock and arrest the suspect. Civil society and community members are also called to assist the law enforcement agencies with the information that will assist in apprehending the suspect.
The federation will henceforth work hard to continue its ongoing fight against gender-based violence and femicide. We shall be lobbying for an introduction of mandatory minimum sentences for perpetrators of domestic violence. Enough is enough!
