COSATU Free State noted with relief the pronouncement by the ANC National Working Committee concerning the establishment of the Provincial Task Team (PTT).
We are relieved that the political leadership vacuum in the province has been filled. We hope and believe that the ANC through the PTT will be able to provide political leadership and oversight in the face of a myriad of challenges that are facing our people in various parts of our province.
Before the sitting of the NWC, the PEC of Federation had declared our willingness and availability to serve in the PTT as part of the ‘joint effort’ of bringing unity and cohesion in the movement across the province. We are disappointed that the submission of the PEC was neither accommodated nor responded to concerning this matter. It is a fact that as the Federation given our current policies and resolutions, we have a direct interest in the ANC. We thus have an inherent responsibility towards the building of a united and decisive movement in the interests of our members and our communities.
We have however accepted that the NWC has decided on the matter and as the Federation, we are looking forward to working together with the PTT collective to build the Movement and other Alliance structures including the Federation. We hope that we will have cordial and mutually beneficial working relations going forward which will benefit our members and the workers at large.
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome the PTT Collective and call upon the team to start the work of making sure that our people receive basic services, set in motion processes to resolve current political issues, and most importantly deliver a flawless and successful provincial conference which will unite the province. This will go a long way in cementing the lifelong relationship between the movement and her voters!
