The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Ms Nonhlanhla Ncube-Ndaba, has condemned the gruesome killing of three women in broad daylight in Inanda, north of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal last Saturday.

According to media reports, the three women were part of a group of people standing in front of the Buhlebethu Primary School gate attending a meeting. It is alleged that a black Opel Corsa bakkie with five occupants drove by and shot at the group.

Ms Ncube-Ndaba said: “The committee condemns this gruesome killing of vulnerable and innocent women in the strongest terms. We are calling upon the police to leave no stone unturned to bring the perpetrators of this horrendous act to book, to face the might of the law.”

Ms Ncube-Ndaba added that this act of barbarism has the potential to intimidate women and deter them from exercising their right to attend community meetings.

“The committee sends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased and wishes them strength during this very difficult and trying time. May their souls rest in eternal peace,” said Ms Ncube-Ndaba.
