The City of Johannesburg welcomes home nine Urban Search and Rescue (USAR), technicians from Emergency Management Services who were deployed to assist in search and rescue efforts in KwaZulu-Natal.
The deployment came after the Gauteng Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) made a request to the City to avail technicians to join the search and rescue mission after KwaZulu-Natal was hit by heavy rains and flooding, which resulted in the loss of lives and displacement.
”I was represented by fellow member of the Mayoral Committee for Transport Cllr Funzela Ngobeni who welcomed the team at Northview Fire Station. He has sent our gratitude to the team for their professionalism during their seven day search and rescue mission. The team was able to assist with the recovery of over 24 bodies in the area they were deployed in. I believe their efforts will assist in the process of healing and recovery for affected families and KZN as a whole,” said Cllr Tembe.
