The President of the Chamber of Mines of South Africa, Mr Mike Teke has announced that Mr Bheki Sibiya will take early retirement on the 30 April 2015. Mr Sibiya informed the Council that he wishes to take early retirement to pursue his personal interests.
“The Council would like to thank Mr Sibiya for his leadership during his tenure as Chief Executive of the Chamber and further wish him the best in his future endeavors" said Mr Teke.
Mr Teke further mentioned that Mr Sibiya took over as Chief Executive from Mr Mzolisi Diliza about five years ago and ensured that the Chamber carries out its lobby and advocacy role competently and to the satisfaction of all its members. The staff and members of the Chamber are grateful to Mr Sibiya for his leadership.
Mr Teke announced that Mr Roger Baxter will be appointed as Chief Executive as from 1 May 2015. The Council would like to congratulate him in his new role and the Council believes that Mr Baxter's experience in the mining industry and his leadership skills will enable the Chamber to continue to carry out its role of representing the industry effectively as it engages with all stakeholders.
On the announcement of his retirement Mr Sibiya was grateful for the opportunity of being the Chief Executive of the Chamber and said, "I congratulate Mr Roger Baxter on his well-deserved appointment and wish him all the best. I sincerely thank President Teke, the Office Bearers, the Council and all the members of the Chamber of Mines for the opportunity of being of service to the industry. I am deeply indebted to the staff for their unwavering camaraderie. Furthermore I thank Ministers Shabangu and Ramatlhodi and their staff for their leadership, and the leaders of the Trade Unions: NUM, AMCU, Solidarity and UASA for their robust cooperation."
