I have received a letter from Cape Winelands Aero, in which the company behind Cape Winelands Airport has revealed that they have submitted notice of intent to submit an application for Environmental Authorisation, signalling the start of the Airport’s development into a world-class international airport.
The Airport, just 10km from Belville, is perfectly situated to handle some of the spillover air traffic from Cape Town International, and will of course attract its own new international routes as well.
The Airport aims to be completely environmentally sustainable, which is why getting the Environmental Authorisation off the ground is so crucial. The Public Participation Process for the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) will be conducted by a third party to ensure impartiality.
The exciting plans for the Airport include:
• The Airport is planned to launch with a 3.5km runway,
• Aterminal with a capacity of 5.2 million passengers per year will be constructed,
• Aeronautical activities including airline operations, aviation-related businesses, and supporting infrastructure,
• Attracting cargo and logistics businesses to the area through air freight activities.
• General development of the new Airport precinct, including restaurants, entertainment and retail.
The DA in the Western Cape celebrates this initiative that will give our province an immense economic boost, both through increased tourism, and the stimulation of the Cape Winelands economy through the activity surrounding the Airport itself.
